Film Friday: Alpha 🔥

Last night at SIFF Cinema Uptown I watched Alpha, and it’s one of those films that doesn’t ease you in, it pulls you under almost immediately.

Directed by Julia Ducournau, the film carries that same visceral intensity she’s known for, but this time it feels even more focused, more internal. It’s less about shock and more about what’s happening beneath the surface, identity, control, and the quiet struggle between who we are and what we’re expected to be. What really stayed with me is how physical the film feels. Every moment is grounded in the body, in movement, in tension. It’s not just something you watch, it’s something you feel, sometimes uncomfortably.

Watching it at SIFF made that even stronger. The room was completely locked in, like no one wanted to break the tension. It’s intense, it’s not always easy, but it’s the kind of film that lingers long after you leave the theater.
