Film Friday: I Love Boosters 🎬

Last night at SIFF Cinema Uptown I watched I Love Boosters, and it’s exactly the kind of indie film that reminds me why I love spending an evening at the movies. The film takes a world that could easily be treated as a simple crime story and instead turns it into something much more interesting, a character study about friendship, ambition, survival, and the strange little families people create for themselves.

What I appreciated most is its sense of humor. It’s dry, clever, and never feels forced, but underneath the laughs is a genuine emotional core. The characters are flawed, impulsive, and sometimes frustrating, yet they remain incredibly human. Visually, the film has a confident style that matches its personality. It feels energetic without becoming chaotic, and every scene seems to reveal another layer of who these people are and what they’re chasing.

Watching it at SIFF made the experience even better. There’s something special about seeing independent films with an audience that’s willing to embrace stories that take creative risks. Funny, stylish, and surprisingly heartfelt.
