Film Friday: Song Sung Blue 🎶

Last night at SIFF Cinema Uptown I watched Song Sung Blue — a film that’s as joyful and gritty as a weathered guitar and twice as honest. Directed by Craig Brewer and starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, it tells the true story of Milwaukee couple Mike and Claire Sardina, who form a Neil Diamond tribute band and, in doing so, discover love, resilience, and the kind of music that gets under your skin.

What struck me most was how Song Sung Blue turns familiar songs into emotional signposts — moments of joy, heartbreak, and second chances. Jackman and Hudson not only act but sing with vulnerability and charm, making classics like “Sweet Caroline” feel like they’re being rediscovered for the first time.

This film isn’t polished to perfection — it’s real, messy, and full of heart. If you need a story about people daring to dream, to love, and to keep singing even when life hits a sour note, this is the movie to see.
