Film Friday: The Shrouds (2025)

Last night’s viewing of The Shrouds was haunting in the best possible way. Cronenberg once again proves why he’s the master of cerebral discomfort. Vincent Cassel delivers a raw, unsettling performance as Karsh, a grieving tech entrepreneur who creates a device that allows the living to monitor their loved ones’ decomposing bodies underground. Yes, it’s as morbid as it sounds, and yet somehow deeply moving.

This film doesn’t just examine grief, it dissects it with surgical precision. Through futuristic tech and the slow unraveling of Karsh’s psyche, we’re pulled into a world where mourning becomes surveillance, and love becomes obsession. Visually sterile yet emotionally charged, The Shrouds dares you to sit with your discomfort and I did, all the way to the closing shot.
