Film Friday: TRON: Ares 🏍️

Last night, I slipped into the neon world of TRON: Ares at SIFF Downtown, and wow — it’s rare to see a film that feels both nostalgic and new. Joachim Rønning takes what we loved about the original TRON universe — the pulse, the glow, that sleek digital dream — and injects it with modern urgency. Jared Leto’s Ares is equal parts messiah and machine, a fascinating exploration of power and purpose inside a world where identity itself can be rewritten.

What hit me hardest wasn’t the effects (though they’re jaw-dropping), but the emotion threaded through the circuitry. Beneath the light cycles and the techno spectacle, there’s a surprisingly human story about creation, consequence, and the spark that separates us from what we make. It’s immersive, electric, and eerily introspective — everything you want from a TRON revival.
