James is a British Diplomat, and Nico is a Buenos Aires Journalist. This story feels fast paced, yet each interaction between James and Nico feels slowed down, their connection slowly developing. They both are trying to keep the upper hand over each other, yet personally, they both feel more is happening under the surface.
This story feels like it’s hitting on different levels all at the same time. There is the dance between journalist and diplomat. There is the slow building attraction that they both try to ignore while knowing it isn’t going away. Then there is this feeling of their interactions being looked down upon not just because of who they are professionally, but personally.
Diplomats Heart, the bonus story that Ryan emails to his newsletter subscribers, we get a deeper history and background of James. It really makes the decisions he makes in the main story hit so much deeper. He must have really developed strong feelings for Nico to risk his whole career. It wasn’t that he got caught up in feelings without knowing the consequences. He knew and still engaged with Nico.
This stories ending feels like it is also a beginning. If Ryan writes more about James and Nico, I’ll happily jump right in. It feels like it could be developed into a movie with intrigue and passion. I can’t say more without giving the story away.
