This past weekend, I wandered into a living postcard at the Seattle Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival—one of those perfect Seattle moments where culture, artistry, and community converge under misty skies. Hosted at the Seattle Center as part of the Festál series, the festival was a vibrant celebration of Japanese heritage. From thunderous taiko drumming to the delicate elegance of flower arranging and calligraphy, every moment was immersive. I even found myself captivated by an origami artist who turned simple paper into cranes that felt like poetry.
I sampled mochi (dangerously soft and sweet), admired intricate hand-painted fans, and ended up in an impromptu haiku circle—because why not? The drizzle outside only made the warmth inside more magical. Seattle, thank you for being a place where tradition and innovation meet, where community is as sweet as the red bean paste, and where even spring showers can’t dampen the joy of shared culture.
