During the weekend, I spent the day on the Burke-Gilman Trail with a bike beneath me and nowhere urgent to be. There’s something uniquely satisfying about a long ride in spring.
The city unfolds differently when you move through it on two wheels, neighborhoods blending into water views, tree-lined stretches opening into skyline glimpses, the scent of fresh earth and lake air meeting in the middle. The trail was alive with runners, walkers, families, dogs, and cyclists all chasing their own version of a good day. I always like that quiet sense of community, everyone moving in the same direction for a while, even if only briefly.
Cycling has a way of sorting things out without asking permission. Thoughts settle into rhythm. Tension loosens. Problems become smaller somewhere between one mile marker and the next. By the time I turned back toward home, legs tired and mind clearer, it felt like exactly the kind of weekend I needed.
