Weekend Wrap | Finding Waterfall Whispers at Coal Creek

Sometimes the best escapes don’t require maps or miles — just a pair of muddy boots, a leash, and a little time to listen to the forest breathe. This weekend, Alex and I traded urban noise for the hushed trails of the Red Town Trailhead, winding our way toward the soft rush of Coal Creek Falls.

Just 30 minutes outside Seattle, the trail curls through shaded groves and soft, spongey earth — remnants of its coal mining history whispering beneath our feet. Ferns stretched wide, wildflowers peeked through, and the waterfall itself? A gentle, mossy cascade that felt more like a secret than a spectacle. Alex gave it a respectful sniff of approval.

There’s something grounding about being somewhere that doesn’t ask anything of you except to notice. This little hike gave me exactly that — a quiet pause in the middle of May.
