Weekend Wrap: Sea Kayaking at Deception Pass ๐Ÿ›ถ

During the weekend, I loaded the kayak onto the Jeep before sunrise and headed north toward Deception Pass, one of those places that never stops feeling a little wild no matter how many times I visit.

The moment the bridge came into view, I remembered why I keep coming back. The cliffs, the forests, the shifting water below, it all feels bigger than the everyday world you leave behind when you start the drive. Once I launched, everything narrowed down to the essentials. Paddle. Breathe. Adjust to the current. Repeat. The water beneath Deception Pass has a personality of its own. It moves with purpose, creating swirling patterns and changing textures that keep you engaged every second you’re out there. Every stroke felt earned, every turn offered another view worth slowing down for.

The shoreline unfolded in layers of rocky cliffs, evergreen forests, hidden coves, and distant islands fading into the horizon. Eagles circled overhead. Seals surfaced unexpectedly nearby. The entire afternoon felt like stepping into a postcard that refused to stay still. By the time I paddled back toward shore, my shoulders were tired, my hands were sore, and my mind felt lighter than it had all week. Sometimes the best weekends are the ones spent following the water wherever it wants to take you.
