This weekend, I stepped into Seattle’s night of neo-soul magic at Sparkman Cellars, where a string quartet delivered timeless tracks by Prince, Childish Gambino, SZA, Lauryn Hill, and more — all under the gentle glow of candlelight. There was something deeply moving about hearing “Purple Rain” echo in a cellar, or “Redbone” reinterpreted in a hushed, intimate setting. No distractions, no spectacle — just artistry, emotion, and connection. It reminded me how powerful music can be when stripped to its purest form.
