Weekend Wrap: Sunset Paddle Around Lake Union ๐Ÿ›ถ

During the weekend, I traded roads and trails for the water and spent the evening paddling around Lake Union as Seattle eased into the first weekend of summer. There’s something special about being on the water at sunset. The city changes. Everything softens. The noise fades into the background, and even familiar places feel different when you’re seeing them from a kayak instead of from behind a windshield.

I launched in the early evening while the lake was still busy with boats, paddleboards, and people enjoying the longest days of the year. But as the sun started sinking lower, the pace changed. The water calmed. The skyline lit up. Houseboats drifted quietly along the shore while golden light stretched across the surface of the lake. I found myself slowing down with it. No destination. No schedule. Just following the shoreline and letting the evening unfold one paddle stroke at a time.

By the time the sun disappeared behind the Olympics and the lights of Seattle began reflecting on the water, I realized I’d stopped thinking about work entirely. Honestly, that might be the greatest gift summer offers. Not bigger adventures. Just longer evenings that remind you to stay a little longer.
