Weekend Wrap: Sunset Paddle to Elliott Bay 🛶

During the weekend, I pushed off from Alki Beach and paddled out into Elliott Bay just as the light started to shift. There’s a moment right before sunset where everything softens, the skyline, the water, even the noise of the city. Out there, it felt like Seattle was holding its breath. The Space Needle caught the last of the light, glass buildings reflecting gold and fading into blue as the sun dropped lower.

The water wasn’t perfectly still, just enough movement to keep you aware, to keep you present. Every stroke carried that quiet rhythm, the kind that pulls you out of your head without asking. I drifted for a while once the sun dipped, letting the horizon blur into color. No rush to head back. No real reason to move faster than the moment allowed.

By the time I turned toward shore, the city lights were starting to come on behind me. And for a while, it felt like I was somewhere in between, day and night, movement and stillness.
