During the weekend, I skipped the highway, ignored the urge to make plans, and spent the day on my bike riding the coastline between West Seattle and Alki Beach. Some weekends call for adventure. Others remind you that some of the best views are already in your own backyard. The route followed the water almost the entire way. Ferries crossed Elliott Bay in the distance, sailboats drifted across the horizon, and the Olympic Mountains stood quietly beyond it all, still carrying traces of snow despite the warmth of June.
There’s something about cycling along the coast that resets my brain faster than almost anything else. Maybe it’s the rhythm. Maybe it’s the constant movement of the water beside you. Or maybe it’s the way every corner opens up to another view worth slowing down for.
I stopped more than once, not because I needed a break, but because the day kept giving me reasons to pause. A stretch of beach catching the afternoon light. Waves rolling against the shoreline. A skyline view that somehow never gets old no matter how many times I see it. By the time I headed home, my legs were tired, my face was sun-warmed, and my mind felt quieter than it had all week. Honestly, that feels like a successful weekend.
